High Voltage Linear Differential Amplifiers

New high voltage linear amplifiers for driving Pockels cells

These two new linear amplifiers have been designed to fit between our older M250 and M5000 models in terms of both maximum voltage swing and bandwidth. Both designs consists of two linear amplifiers that together produce a differential output that can be connected to either side of the modulator. This produces an optical phase change equivalent to the output from a single sided 1000V unit in the case of the M1000 and 2500V in the M2500.

The M1000 amplifier has a bandwidth of >1MHz and a rise/fall time of less than 300ns whilst the M2500 achieves >250kHz bandwidth and a rise/fall time <600ns.

Like the M250 design, these amplifiers do not include internal oscillators so an external variable output low signal level source must be connected. The designs retain the DC biasing control of the M250 and so they are ideally suited to driving larger aperture versions of our low-voltage series modulators such as the EM400A/K and EM600A/K transverse field modulators which require DC bias to set the optimum operating point for the most linear modulation. The higher voltage M2500 unit is also capable of drivings other transverse field modulators such as RTP Pockels cells and even some lower voltage BBO cells for analogue modulation applications such as true polarization rotation (when combined with a suitable waveplate)
